About the Artist

"Trained in Fine Arts, Film Photography and Dance, Lara Padilla is a multidisciplinary artist who expresses herself through very different formats such as painting, sculpture, video art, performance, body action or clothing design.

Since her first interventions in public spaces, painting walls and doing performances both in Spain and in Miami, she has been creating her own fresh and fun style that is reflective, conscious and committed at the same time. Action art, reinforced by her condition as a lover of dance full of vitality, has a lot of weight in her creations, as well as a very clear idea of ​​the ideas and values ​​that concern her and that she is interested in transmitting to those who approach her work. ; her characters always “bet on love, freedom and diversity”.

Right at the very beginning of her career as an artist, Padilla viewed with great concern the generational battles of our societies, some harder than others, but difficult enough to cause unrest and discomfort.

Padilla became known through her Tetris series where she tackles gracefully the women body in an attempt to grant merits to the natural struggles that a female body is usually in due to biological changes only attached to being a woman. These sense and sensibility in Padilla´s works come smoothly into play in their way of painting, in every stroke of an eye of her representations, in the tail of an ailing or happy animal she depicts, in the background of her canvases and above all her sense of beauty in the sometimes difficult passage of an issue.

The kinship of her work to expressionistic
tendencies of the early 80´s makes it more compelling to delve into pictorial aspects that remain fascinating to watch in the light of the complexity of the issues she´s been diving in."
